Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate

Departure from Marrakech and Atlas Mountain Crossing

Our 4 days Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour begins with an early departure from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. We travel south across the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, crossing the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest road pass in Morocco.

Along the way, we enjoy panoramic views, winding mountain roads, and traditional Berber villages clinging to the hillsides, offering a stunning introduction to Morocco’s geographical diversity.

Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – UNESCO World Heritage Site

One of the highlights of the first day is a visit to the legendary Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most iconic fortified villages. Built from earth and straw, this ancient ksar has served as a backdrop for numerous international films and historical productions.

We explore the narrow alleys, traditional houses, and hilltop viewpoints while learning about the kasbah’s role in ancient caravan trade routes.

Arrival in Ouarzazate

In the afternoon, we continue to Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Hollywood of Morocco.” Known for its film studios and desert landscapes, Ouarzazate is the gateway to southern Morocco. Dinner and overnight accommodation in a comfortable hotel conclude the first day.

Day 2: Ouarzazate – Skoura Oasis – Rose Valley – Dades Valley

Skoura Oasis and Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs

After breakfast, we depart Ouarzazate and travel through the lush Skoura Oasis, home to extensive palm groves and historic kasbahs, including the famous Kasbah Amridil. The journey continues through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, where ancient fortresses line the riverbanks, reflecting centuries of Berber culture and desert trade.

Rose Valley Exploration

We continue through the beautiful Rose Valley, known for its fragrant rose fields and traditional rose products. During spring, the valley comes alive with blooming roses, but its charm extends year-round through picturesque villages and fertile landscapes.

Overnight in the Dades Valley

By late afternoon, we arrive in the scenic Dades Valley, famous for its dramatic rock formations, winding roads, and fertile riverbanks. Dinner and overnight accommodation in a charming hotel or guesthouse offer a peaceful end to the day.

Day 3: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert

Todra Gorge – Natural Wonder

After breakfast, we depart the Dades Valley and head toward the breathtaking Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most impressive natural landmarks. Towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically on both sides of a narrow canyon, creating a spectacular setting for a short walk and photos.

Journey Toward the Sahara

We continue through desert towns such as Tinejdad and Touroug, surrounded by palm groves and arid landscapes. Passing through Erfoud, known for its fossil workshops and marble products, we officially enter the Sahara region.

Arrival in Merzouga and Camel Trekking

In the afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, where the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi rise majestically from the desert plains. After a short rest, we begin a traditional camel trek across the Sahara Desert, guided by experienced camel handlers.

As the sun sets, the dunes glow in rich shades of gold and orange, creating one of the most magical moments of the journey.

Overnight in a Merzouga Desert Camp

We arrive at a comfortable Sahara desert camp, offering private tents with proper beds and modern amenities. After a traditional Moroccan dinner, the evening is spent enjoying Berber music around the campfire, followed by stargazing beneath the vast desert sky.

Day 4: Quad Biking in Merzouga – Rissani – Draa Valley – Return to Marrakech

Sunrise Over the Erg Chebbi Dunes

The day begins early with a breathtaking sunrise over the Sahara Desert, offering panoramic views across the endless dunes. After breakfast at the camp, we return to Merzouga village by camel or 4×4 vehicle.

Quad Biking Adventure in Merzouga Desert

The highlight of the tour takes place today: quad biking in Merzouga. After a safety briefing and full equipment fitting, we set off on an exhilarating ride across the dunes and desert trails.
