Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Ouarzazate – Skoura Oasis – Rose Valley – Dades Valley
The tour begins in Ouarzazate, widely known as the gateway to the Sahara and home to historic kasbahs and film studios. Departing eastward, we drive through the Skoura Oasis, a vast palm grove dotted with fortified kasbahs that reflect traditional Berber architecture and centuries of desert life.
Continuing through the scenic Valley of Roses, the landscape becomes greener, especially in spring when roses bloom and local cooperatives produce natural rosewater. This region provides a fascinating insight into rural Moroccan traditions.
By late afternoon, we arrive in the beautiful Dades Valley, famous for its dramatic rock formations and winding mountain roads. Dinner and overnight stay take place in a comfortable hotel or riad overlooking the valley.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert
After breakfast, the journey continues toward the breathtaking Todra Gorge, where towering canyon walls rise dramatically above a crystal-clear river. This natural wonder offers excellent opportunities for walking and photography.
Passing through Erfoud, known for its fossil workshops and desert trade, the scenery gradually changes into open desert plains. In the afternoon, the golden dunes of Merzouga come into view, marking arrival at the Sahara.
Guests are welcomed at a desert lodge before setting off on a camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes, perfectly timed to capture the sunset. The evening is spent at a traditional or luxury desert camp with dinner, Berber music, and a night beneath the stars.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert – Quad Biking Experience – Nomad Villages
The third day is dedicated to discovering the Merzouga region. After breakfast, guests enjoy a professionally guided quad biking experience in Merzouga, exploring rolling dunes, desert tracks, and panoramic viewpoints deep in the Sahara.
This thrilling activity offers a dynamic way to experience the vastness of the dunes while maintaining safety and environmental respect. All necessary equipment and instructions are provided, making the experience suitable for both beginners and experienced riders.
In the afternoon, the tour continues with visits to nearby nomad settlements, the village of Khamlia, famous for its Gnawa music, and seasonal desert lakes when conditions allow. The night is spent in a desert lodge or camp near the dunes, allowing time to relax and enjoy the peaceful desert atmosphere.
Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Ouarzazate
After breakfast, the return journey begins via Rissani, an important historic trading town and former capital of the Tafilalt region. The road continues through Alnif and vast desert landscapes, offering scenic views and insight into southern Morocco’s remote regions.
