Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Ouarzazate – Skoura Oasis – Rose Valley – Dades Valley
The tour begins in Ouarzazate, known as the gateway to the Sahara and a former caravan trading center. Departing eastward, we travel through the lush Skoura Oasis, a vast palm grove dotted with ancient kasbahs that reflect traditional Berber architecture.
Continuing through the scenic Valley of Roses, the road passes fertile valleys and traditional villages famous for rose cultivation and artisanal rosewater production. By late afternoon, we arrive in the beautiful Dades Valley, renowned for its winding roads and dramatic rock formations. Dinner and overnight stay take place in a comfortable hotel or riad overlooking the valley.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert
After breakfast, the journey continues toward the impressive Todra Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs rise above a narrow riverbed. This natural canyon is one of southern Morocco’s most remarkable geological sites and offers excellent opportunities for walking and photography.
Passing through Erfoud, a town known for its fossil workshops and desert trade, the landscape gradually becomes more arid. In the afternoon, the golden dunes of Merzouga come into view, marking arrival at the Sahara.
Guests are welcomed at a desert lodge before heading into the dunes for a memorable camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset. The evening is spent in a traditional or luxury desert camp with dinner, Berber music, and a night beneath the star-filled desert sky.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert – Quad Biking Experience – Local Discoveries
The third day is dedicated to exploring the Merzouga region. After breakfast, guests enjoy a professionally guided quad biking experience in Merzouga, riding across rolling dunes and open desert tracks that offer panoramic views of the Sahara.
This activity provides an exciting yet controlled way to experience the vast desert landscape, with safety equipment and expert instruction provided. The experience is suitable for beginners and experienced riders alike.
In the afternoon, the tour continues with visits to nomad families, the village of Khamlia, known for its traditional Gnawa music, and seasonal desert lakes when water levels permit. The night is spent in a desert lodge or camp near the dunes, allowing time to relax and enjoy the peaceful desert atmosphere.
Day 4: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Cedar Forest – Fes
After an early breakfast, the journey continues north toward Fes. The route passes through Rissani and the lush Ziz Valley, one of Morocco’s longest palm oases, offering breathtaking views and scenic stops.
Continuing through Midelt, located between the Middle and High Atlas Mountains, the landscape gradually changes as we approach the cedar forests near Azrou, where Barbary macaques are often seen. The journey concludes with arrival in Fes in the late afternoon or evening.
